Myths And Tales About Linux

There are a lot of myths and tales about Linux. See our comments to some of them.

  • Linux would not be userfriendly.
On this issue, we would say only this :

Linux is userfriendly, it's just picky about who's friend it is.
  • There would not be a commercial support available for Linux.

Wrong. Big companies like IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Silicon Graphics or Sun Microsystems actually do offer service and support Linux. In particular, they even support OpenSource Software Development or support GNU-Projects.
Furthermore there is a countless number of IT Service Companies which offer full customer support for Linux systems. By the way, netzwerk-aktiv GmbH is offering support for your Linux systems and projects as well.
  • There would not be much software available for Linux.

Wrong again. There are more than 30 programms or tools appearing daily on freshmeat.net for Linux and other UNIX systems.

Evolution is a Workgroup-Tool and Information Manager, Nautilus is a File Manager and Browser.
