This may not be the appropriate mailing list, in which case I
appologize.
My firewire card is the Firewire Direct pcmcia card part no 10.221 made
in 2000. I have a 80gig maxtor external firewire drive split into three
partitions. There's a bad block or something in the second partition,
causing a lot of problems. I tried running fsck -c (bad block check),
but midway through I get this:
ieee1394: sbp2: aborting sbp2 command
Sep 16 13:54:53 localhost kernel: Read (10) 00 04 26 ed 97 00 00 f8 00
Sep 16 13:55:54 localhost kernel: ieee1394: sbp2: aborting sbp2 command
Sep 16 13:55:54 localhost kernel: Read (10) 00 04 26 ed 97 00 00 f8 00
Sep 16 13:55:54 localhost kernel: ieee1394: sbp2: reset requested
Sep 16 13:55:54 localhost kernel: ieee1394: sbp2: Generating sbp2 fetch
agent reset
the badblocks program becomes status D. After some more failed reads, I
get:
ieee1394: sbp2: aborting sbp2 command
Sep 16 13:57:39 localhost kernel: Read (10) 00 04 26 ed 97 00 00 f8 00
Sep 16 13:57:39 localhost kernel: scsi: device set offline - not ready
or command retry failed after bus
reset: host 1 channel 0 id 1 lun 0
Sep 16 13:57:39 localhost kernel: scsi1: ERROR on channel 0, id 1, lun
0, CDB: Read (10) 00 04 26 ed 97 00 00 f8 00
Sep 16 13:57:39 localhost kernel: Current sd08:02: sense key Medium
Error
Sep 16 13:57:39 localhost kernel: Additional sense indicates Unrecovered
read error
At this point the drive has shut itself down or been disconnected from
the firewire chain. Attempting to mount any of the partitions fails. I
have to turn off the drive and reload the ohci1394 drivers to see it
again.
Basically I think the badblocks program should work, but for some reason
firewire isn't dealing with the errors nicely and is giving up on the
drive. How can I fix this parition?
