Hello again --

After sending the last message (and I should clarify that I'm not talking about
video files, but rather generalized data backups such as tar files), it occurred
to me that perhaps this can be accomplished by just "wrapping" the archive into
a standard video format such as a MPEG file or some such and then using a
standard video utility such as Kino or Coriander to dump/restore it to/from the
camcorder. Has anyone tried this?

Thanks in advance,
David Favro

Hello all,

Please pardon the newbie question, but I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a
program to backup or dump a file or files to a mini-DV camcorder via 1394. What
I'm looking for is exactly what's described in the BackFire project (http:
//backfire.sourceforge.net/) but that project looks pretty cold so I'm wondering
if some other program will already do the same thing. Since it seems like an
obvious application, I can't be the only person hankering for such a utility.

Cheers,
David Favro
