LaCie Big Disk Query

Hi all,

This is my first time submitting anything to this list, so here goes:-

Does anybody have any experience in connecting a LaCie Big Disk to a
computer running Linux?

This box has USB and firewire 800 connections. I can talk quite happily
to the box through the USB1.2 port, but when I try to copy large files,
the whole system hangs after about 30GB. I can't see the drive at all
when I connect it via a firewire 400 or 800 interface.

I am running RedHat 8.0 with a standard vanilla 2.4.22 kernel on an
Athlon processor with 512MB RAM.
