I have a mostly unstable brach of Debian. My kernel is 2.4.23-pre6 from ppckernel.org, made for debian. According to the config file, sb2, ieee1394, ohci1394, pcilynx, raw1394 and maybe a few other firewire dealies are built as modules. I can't seem to get ohci1394 to work, but as I understand it pcilynx can fill its place, and that one loads fine. I think I have a problem with the sbp2 module though.
Ok, I modprobe ieee1394, pcilynx, and sbp2. They all go, without error (or atleast nothing on stderr/out). But, sbp2 doesn't see the iPod. I checked the plugs, and they are ok (I know cuz the iPod charges). Here's the output from /proc/scsi/sbp2_0/3 (the only item within /proc/scsi/sbp2_0):
Host scsi3 : SBP-2 IEEE-1394 (pcilynx)
Driver version : $Rev: 953 $ Ben Collins <bcollins@debian.org>
Module options :
max_speed : S800
max_sectors : 255
serialize_io : no
exclusive_login : yes
Attached devices : none
Most disturbing to me is the "Attached devices : none" part. Similarly, /proc/scsi/scsi says:
Attached devices: none
The really confusing part for me, is that /proc/bus/ieee1394/devices actually shows the iPod:

As per the reporting problems page, I'll post the output from lspci:

01:05.0 Class ff00: Apple Computer Inc. Paddington Mac I/O
01:06.0 USB Controller: OPTi Inc. 82C861 (rev 10)
I'm not sure which parts of dmesg are most relevant (theres a lot in there about ieee1394, presumably because i've modprobe'd so many times). Here's something I think is relevant (though I don't know how to fix it):
scsi3 : SCSI emulation for IEEE-1394 SBP-2 Devices
blk: queue d59c7c94, I/O limit 4095Mb (mask 0xffffffff)
ieee1394: sbp2: Error logging into SBP-2 device - login timed-out
So I guess `login' timed out. I don't know if thats cuz the iPod was just slow to respond, or because of some more critical problem or what? Anyone have any clues, or suggestions?
