I had firewire working (able to access external HD and CDRW drives)
with my old motherboard, an ASUS A7S333 (SiS 745 chipset). I replaced
the motherboard with a Gigabyte 7VT600 (Via KT600 chipset), and I can
no longer user firewire. In the process, I did have to completely
reinstall the OS, but I'm pretty sure I did everything firewire
needed.
I've tried 2.4.21 (what I had on the old motherboard) and 2.4.22.
