If you did not already, test the newest ieee1394 sources from the
trunk at the linux1394.org Subversion repository. The IEEE 1394
subsystem for kernel 2.6 is currently a moving target. One day
you might get a working variant, another day you might fetch one
that does not even compile.

I am a bit out of touch with what goes on with 1394 in 2.6. That
particular login problem might (or might not) have already been
discussed at linux1394-devel and maybe even fixed in the repo.

The names are created from the hexadecimal node GUIDs (unique
identifiers that are usually hard-wired in the devices, similar
to the MAC of ethernet cards). It is therefore the very nature of
these names to look weird. :-)
