According to the instructions, the drive enclosure could power the drive from
the bus power supply. So no external power supply would be needed (if the
drive doesn't need too much).

I will try the firmware update (where the hell should I get a Windows cd now?)
and report, if this should help. I will also play around a bit more and, if I
get some useful new information, will post here.
