Have you configure each program to use "/dev/dv1394" ?
e.g.
dvgrab --dv1394 /dev/dv1394

dv1394d requires that you follow the devfs naming conventions as
specified on http://www.linux1394.org/dv1394.html since it is
specifically designed to work with multiple dv units.
