I do not remember of any report of an incompatible PCMCIA card
(CardBus card actually). I have been reading this list for 3
years now.

The hotplug scripts load the correct driver when a CardBus card
is inserted. However the drivers are unable to deal with card
ejection. It is critical that you unload the lowlevel driver
yourself (usually ohci1394, sometimes pcilynx) --- at least when
you ejected the card and before you insert the card again. (Older
driver versions even required to unload them before the card was
ejected, else the kernel would crash or hang.)

While all cards should work, there are however multiple problems
with Linux' PCI and CardBus subsystem. Even if 16 bit PCMCIA
cards work flawlessly, there is still a small chance that 32 bit
PCMCIA (CardBus) cards are not handled correctly.
