"USB video"

Please, pardon my ignorance...

I have a Panasonic "Palmcorder" (PV-DC252D) camera. It
is apparently able to store video in DV format on a
*tape*, and play it back via digital ports. One of these
is (I think) firewire and the other is a USB.

Is it possible to play the video back via USB onto a
Linux computer, and if so, is this the right place to
ask how to do it?

Your page at SF describes 1394 as a protocol, so I'm
not really sure if it is specific to the firewire
hardware, or if the USB transmission would be the same
from the software side.

I'm pretty sure I can handle the DV files once they're
on the machine, but that still leaves me with the
"plumbing" problem of getting the data from the DV tape
onto my hard drive, via the USB port on the camera.

I'm just very confused about this, and not sure where
to start looking.

Thanks,
Terry
