Hi, my external DVD+-RW drive works very unstable over FireWire. It
seems I can burn DVD+RW and they can be mounted later (I see file
system) but the drive hangs almost all the time as I try to read
files (copy them with cp or play with mplayer)
Only 50k of a file or so gets written on the disk then. Only
disconnecting the drive and turning it off and on helps to get it
back on normal, otherwise the disk keeps spinning and the led is
constantly lit on the frontpanel of the drive.
I have the drive only since a couple of weeks, and the very first
DVD+RW can be read without problems. CDRWs or CDRs can be read or
written without any problem too.
DVDRIP can access the DVD-ROM's with no problem whatsoever.
What could I do to find out about this mystery, could it be that the
problem is not with FireWire but somewhere else (supermount etc.?)
Thanks for your attention, detailed info below:
The drive is NEC 1300A DVD+-RW in a noname external enclosure
connected via FireWire to Gericom Laptop.
