Problems with SB2 Module - I think

Ok, here's the situation I have a FW Hard Drive that I'm having problems
reading on my linux system. When I try to read I get the errors detailed
below and extremely slow reading. If I try to play an mp3 off the drive
it will stop ever 20-40 seconds for about 10 seconds. Copying, well it's
taken me over an hour to try to copy 13gb off it... and it's still
going. When it "pauses" it sounds like the disk spins down and then
spins back up. It also seems that the cpu takes a hit when this happens,
I'm not sure why.

For verification I have used this drive just fine on a Powerbook G3/400,
it's actually nice and fast. I haven't actually tested windows since
it's not nearly flexible enough in fs formats (the drive currently only
has a hfs+ partition) After browsing some of the posts on the net I have
heard people surmise that this may be a heat issue or something similar.
Well, the drive does get hotter when connected to my linux system then
to the mac, even just sitting there, that said I don't think heat build
up is a problem. To verify this I've removed the case around the drive
and the drive is warm to the touch but nothing worse then one of my ide
drives in my computer.

I would really like to get this going; any ideas welcomed! I'm a bit new
to debian and don't know where everything resides so you may have to be
patient; I'm going to ask stupid questions (but I'll try to find out the
answers elsewhere first.)

Thanks

Andre Baron
