Yes, that is commonly found by people who see these aborting
command errors under recent 2.6 variants.

This is only a workaround for devices whose link speed is not
properly detected (irrelevant for SBP-2 devices which are almost
always S400 or S800 devices) or as a last resort for electrically
noisy hardware.

It seems to be circa 10 minor revisions behind the repo.

Just make sure an old kernel can still be booted.
I had options like energy control related features, SMP, LVM, and
so forth in mind.

According to postings at this list, it seems to be independent
from the chipset. AFAIR also bridge chips with good reputation
are affected. Firmware bugs are another possible factor though.
Some Prolific based bridges are known to implement a bogus USB/
FireWire autodetection. While this is unrelated to the topic, it
is at least an indicator for sloppy product quality.
