Pat,
    I think you are making my Knoppix question much more difficult than
I intended. Boot Knoppix. If the 1394 drivers are installed, and I'm
assuming they are modules and not built in, then look in dmesg for what
revision numbers they are:

dmesg | grep Collins

returns reasonable results for me. Of course if they are not installed
modprobe them first. Report the results back.
