Tape drive with kernel 2.6 fails

Hello list,

I have a problem with my ide tape drive which is in
an external ide to firewire case.
The drive works with kernel 2.4.17, but doesn't work with
kernel 2.6.3, 2.6.5 and 2.6.6.
Other kernels I haven't tested.

The tape is recognized by the firewire driver :

but an access to the tape drive via tar fails :

There is some data on the tape, I can read it with kernel 2.4.17.
And I get the following messages in /var/log/messages :

A harddisk connected on the same ide-firewire converter works for all systems.
Can someone help me with this problem or do you need more information ?
