I am trying to install Oracle 10G for Linux using 1394b, having some
problems and looking for some help.
Here's where I am at
- running testlibraw crashes the whole system after displaying that
reads failed with device not available and write indicated OK. Then it
mentions some FCP test and crashes the box.
- Gscanbus runs and lists an Unknown 1394 Node with one other node
connected marked with a ?
- fdisk -l only shows the IDE HDD's
Here what I've Done
- Hardware is dual P3 800, 2GB Ram and 2x 40GB IDE Drives,
Linux/Win 2003 dual boot
- Firewire consists of PCI card with TI chipset connected to Dual
Channel IDE Bridge with 4x80GB IDE Drives in hotswap Proware array
(This hardware was confirmed under win2003, before attempting to work under
Linux)
- Installed Base RHEL AS 2.1 2.4.9-e.3
- Updated Kernel and packages to latest from RHN 2.4.9-e.59smp
- Installed Libraw from linux1394.org
- Installed gscanbus from linux1394.org
- lspci indicates that the ieee394 PCI card is being recognized
- performed the modprobe for ohci1394 and raw1394
- tested with testlibraw and gscanbus as above
Questions I have
- Do I need the kernel patch from linux1394.org for RHEL AS2.1 at
2.4.9-e.59smp or is this kernel sufficient ? or
- do I need a different kernel release?
- Step by step instructions for getting the drives to be recognized
by Linux, including which utilities to use and the commands needed.
(I looked at an article for IDE bridge which used /proc/scsi/scsi to make
the drives available but I don't have a proc/scsi directory and it would not
seem to let me create one)
I would be happy to share anything I have learned along the way and was
hoping to start a dialogue with someone who had maybe done this or something
like this.
Regards Alan Williams
